January 31, 2012 – birds v stones…

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

So, the January song for the other Y2012 project was a lot of fun to write, and in the process, I realized I wanted to put a bass line to it, maybe some guitars and assorted other fun. Today I learned about a couple different models of digital multitrack recorders, because I don’t really want to drag the old Yamaha MT50 out of retirement, I’m feeling lazy and just want to record tracks, drag them off to my computer and mix them down…

The only disappointing thing is that the tascam only records two tracks at a time.

One of my mentors has told me I deserve a $700 rack mounting multitrack machine… which is tempting, and I do have a rack (wait… that didn’t sound right) and a couple gift cards…

And yes, I will probably record the songs off to an old school cassette, then redigitize them for nerdy fun.

January 30, 2012… so how much is this going to cost me pt 2

FIX IT STICK WORKS!!!! AND YOU CAN SCULPT WITH THE LEFTOVERS!!!!

With everything going on, there’s not much time to cope with the garbage disposal, so for now, it’s patched up and the plumber is on notice – work a’comin!

January 29th, 2012 – if it smells like sweat socks… it probably tastes like sweat socks…

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

Today I learned what “crushed yellow bean sauce is”… later in the evening, I learned how hard it is to open a jar of it, and that when you do, if you’re not careful, crushed soybeans and the brine will likely fly everywhere…

but mmmmmmmmmmmmm Yasai Yaki Soba!!!

January 28th, 2012 – So how much is this going to cost me?

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

Today I learned the garbage disposal is CRACKED! And this is pretty common apparently for the insinkerator badger 5… within a year of the warrenty expiring… expect a waterfall under your sink.

Thankfully, the previous owner left a bucket under every sink, or the water damage would be a lot worse.

January 27th, 2012… so it’s NOT called “You know, like, fancy glass fimo”?

Friday, January 27th, 2012

It was my aunt’s birthday and my uncle bought her a beautiful pair of earrings made with Millefiori Rods… Thankfully she posted a photo – or I would’ve had to google all that, I did not know that was the name for that style of glass work.

January 26, 2012 – I’m going to have to go with “SQUEEEEE” here…

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Today I learned that dormice hibernate and while doing so… they snore.

yup.

which makes you think… having a pet that hibernates 6 months out of the year could be pretty handy.

January 25, 2012… I thought wrong…

My boyfriend told me ice cream would help my sore throat.
I thought he was just being a devil on my shoulder.

I ate crow, shortly after a bowl full of Hagen Daas five vanilla flavor…
I wonder if anyone’s thought of crow/vanilla swirl.

PS I’m sure it’s just a temporary fix because I remember my mom saying diary products were terrible for sore throats.

January 24, 2012 – GEEZE that was close.

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Today I learned that my softbox will collapse on you, totally unexpectedly. Maybe not today… maybe not tomorrow… probably after it’s been set up in the studio and moved around a bunch over the course of like a year, and right in a client’s face (missed her by probably 10″ – still. not fun).

So I should probably tighten those up every now and then to avoid that happening.

January 23, 2012 – Why didn’t you vote him out after he lost that first war?

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Today I learned that King George III was the King of England through the American Revolution (which my pocket guide to the kings and queens of the British Isles calls “The Imperial Setback” and “The American Rebellion”) AND the war of 1812.

I’m sure that was covered in history class when we went over these wars, but hey, sometimes things just fall out of your brain.

He lived and reigned longer than any of his predecessors.

I wonder how he would’ve handled The Pig War… if he had lived to see it…

I also wonder how often I can reference The Pig War (my favorite chapter in our history) in this blog.

January 22, 2012 – Sometimes you really do have to say ‘no’.

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

My mom called with spare tickets to a show, but I had way to much to get done. We settled on ‘we’ll see if I can make it in time’… and I missed that target by only a half hour.

In the end it was for the best. By the time they were seated in the theater I had a crushing headache and was grateful not to be facing a couple hours in the same seat.

Also – while driving to Glen Echo to take care of test shots with the Large Format Camera, I heard Dianne Rehm interviewing Sally Bedell Smith about her biography of Queen Elizabeth II. I’d post anything I heard from that program, but it might lead some to believe I was obsessed with the monarchy. I’m proud to say I got a lot accomplished while most were busily watching replays Will and Kate’s wedding.
